Registering
  • Mail registration forms and fees to the NW Community Ed Coordinator at the school address listed above or drop them off at the NW School office.
  • You can now register online by clicking here and using our Community Education Online Registration form, however you must still mail or drop off class fees at the North Woods school to complete registration.
  • Make sure envelope is labeled "Community Education"  to ensure it gets to the CE mailbox.  
  • Registration forms can be found by clicking here: Comm Ed Forms.
  • Contact the Community Ed Coordinator if you should have any questions or concerns.

Little Grizzlies After School  Program
Little Grizzlies is the place for after school fun and activities! The program is open to students in Learning Readiness through 6th grade. Enrollment forms can be found outside the NW Library, online at www.northwoodsschool.net under the Community Ed tab or by contacting Little Grizzlies Supervisor, Beth Vidal at 218-235-8693.  Enrollment forms must be completed and returned to Little Grizzlies Supervisor before entry into Program.

North Woods Community Theatre
Interested individuals should attend this kick off meeting.  We will be looking at playbills to select the production we will perform in the coming weeks!  It’s a great, fun-filled time!!!  Practices take place Tuesday and Thursdays up until the production date.

Love and Logic: Common Sense Parenting Strategies
Ever get tired of the battle over chores???  How about constant sibling bickering?  How about…???  If you’re a parent who’s running out of answers and out of breath trying to communicate with your kids, this parent training program is for you.  This course, developed by Cline/Faye Institute, was designed to help you find specific answers and actions for some of those difficult moments in child-rearing.  These simple techniques are effective with all children, from toddlers to teens.  The Cline/Faye Love and Logic philosophy is a quiet giant sweeping the country.  The Love and Logic approach is made up of four basic concepts, which when used consistently, produces happy, responsible children.

Personal Finance Counseling
North Star Credit Union has partnered with Lutheran Social Services to provide members with free, private – one-on-one financial counseling.  One hour long sessions on topics such as Free Credit Report Review – see what your report says and what it means, Create a Savings Plan – you have a goal, now have a plan or Students Loan Payment Strategies and more are available by appointment.  April, with LSS, will be available at North Star Credit Union from 9 – 5 pm to take appointments.  CE fee will be covered by NSCU.  Call Casey at North Start Credit Union to set up your appointment at 666-5940 or by email chagadorn@northstarcreditunion.org.

Social Security Disability Benefits
Those who may find themselves unable to work, due to injury or illness are often confused and frustrated by the Social Security Disability application process.  This class will explain the history of the program, the application and appeal process, and available resources.  There will be time for questions and answers.

Motor Coach Trip to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre’s Matinee Performance of “Grease”

The cost of this day trip includes deluxe motor-coach, roundtrip, bus fare, lunch at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, and the show ticket. Reservations are limited to 30 people. There are no refunds for cancellations unless seat can be sold to another party. All patrons will be refunded if the trip is cancelled due to lack of registrations. Students must be 5 years old and up; 17 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  All seats must be reserved and paid in full by Friday, April 7, 2017 at 5:00 P.M
This escorted trip is Saturday, May 20, 2017; Bus leaves Thunderbird Mall Parking lot near Village Inn at 6:00 A.M. and returns to Thunderbird Mall Parking Lot near Village Inn at 9:00 P.M.; $129 per person.

How Do I Register for Classes?
You can register for classes you want to take by filling out the community education registration form in this catalog and mailing it to the respective Community Ed Coordinator. So if you are taking classes in Tower, you mail it to the Tower CE Coordinator.  You can also call the respective CE Coordinator to register for classes.  Be sure to check out the school website for up-to-date community ed information at www.northwoodsschool.net, click on Athletics/Activities tab and then Community Ed tab.


Estate Planning/Titling of Assets
Get your estate in order by planning for incompetency and/or death.  Learn why you need a Power of Attorney, Health Care Directive, and Will.  Also, get up-to-date information about nursing home planning and learn how titling your assets impacts your estate and nursing home planning.  Please register with Community Ed Coordinator by Sept. 19.

Prairie Fire Childrens Theatre Auditions– Jack and the Beanstalk
Auditions are open to anyone grades 2 through 12. The audition process lasts up to two hours and all those auditioning are required to be in attendance for its entirety.  The cast will be announced at the end of the two hour audition with each student receiving a part; each cast member will receive a rehearsal schedule for the remainder of the week.   There will be rehearsal after auditions so expect your student to be done by approximately 7:30 pm on Monday, March 20.  Rehearsals will be held from after school until approximately 7:30 pm throughout the remainder of the week. Please send a lunch with your child each day.  Scheduled supper breaks will be offered each night.  Pre-registration is welcomed!  Otherwise be sure to have your registration and fee with you for auditions!

Prairie Fire Childrens Theatre Performance of Jack in the Beanstalk
“Jack and the Beanstalk,” with script and original music by Bob Gribas and Angela Rinaldi Gribas and costume and set design by Deborah Pick, continues Prairie Fire’s tradition of presenting classic tales as you’ve never seen them done before. Follow Jack’s adventure up and down the beanstalk through the worlds of “Orchestrania,” where all the people sing; “Featherville,” whose inhabitants are most “fowl” and “Giantland” where he meets the mischievous Trolls (and of course, “The Big Guy.”)  Tickets available at the door for $5 for all attending.  Ages 4 and under free.

Basketweaving
Come join me a weave a basket!  The type of basket will be chosen prior to class.  A light lunch will be provided for all to enjoy during class.  Pre-registration is required by March 8 by sending in registration and payment.  A minimum of 6 is needed for the class to hold and a maximum of 12 students is the limit.  If class is not held due to low registrations, a full refund will be issued.  Supply Fee of $60 payable directly to instructor at class.

ATV Safety Course
Anyone operating an ATV on public lands in Minnesota between the ages of 11 – 15 (Certificate is valid when student turns 12 years of age) must pass a field training session. You must complete the CD before attending the riding test session.  Participants must bring the print out with them on Saturday to complete the course.  CD’s for this course are available at the North Woods School office or from the DNR.  Space is limited to 20 students.  Pre-registration is required with $5 CE Fee paid to Community Ed prior to class. Walk-ins will be turned away.

Julie’s Dance - Practices
Learn how to dance – Tap, Ballet, Lyric & Hip Hop.  Ages 3 years to 12th Grade.  Once a week fro ½ hour to 45 min dependent on group.  Practice runs from October 3rd to the first week in May with a performance in May.  Please contact Julie for her Fee information & schedules for practice.  CE registration and fee must be submitted to CE Coordinator prior to your child participating in any practices.

55 Alive Defensive Driving Refresher Course
Participants in the course are entitled to a 10% discount on their automobile insurance rates for three years.  The 4 hour refresher course is for those who have previously attended an 8 hour defensive driving course.  There is a minimum number of students required to hold this class.  Please register early!

Firearms Safety and Hunter Education
Students must be 11 years old or older at the time of class.  Successful completion of this course is required to purchase a hunting license.  This course will be conducted in accordance with the criteria set forth by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) and the International Hunter Education Association (IHEA).  Certified DNR and NRA instructors will supervise and administer this curriculum.  To pass the course students must attend all classes and pass written and field tests.  If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Ed Franck at 218-757-3235.

Open Fitness Center
The fitness center is open to the public.  Each member is required to sign an informed consent & release form. Parents will sign for students under 18 years of age. Enrolled students are free but students under 7th grade must be supervised by an adult at all times.  New for 2016-2017 – Workout of the Day posted on the board!!  Fitness Center staff is available to help with using the equipment.  Work out at your own pace & skill level!
Fees are payable the first of each month to Fitness Center Staff. 
Hours of Operation for Fall are Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 3 – 6:30 pm; Wed 2 – 6:30 pm

Fees: 
$20 a month for 18 year old/adult
$25 a month for couples
$30 a month for a family
