North Woods School Announcements

Friday – November 9th, 2018


  • Reminder to All: Please note there is no school on Monday, November 12th (holiday).


  • Youth in Action Food Drive: YIA is sponsoring a food drive November 13th through 16th to support our local food shelves. All students are asked to please bring a non perishable food items. Thank you!


  • Boys Football and Basketball Players: The locks in the athletic locker room were rearranged last weekend. Students not in winter sports are to please see Mrs. Holien for a PE locker. Basketball players, please see Mr Jirik or Mr Kleppe for an assigned locker and combination.


Anything left in the lockers after this week will be considered unwanted and placed in lost and found or the garbage.


  • Conference Info: Teacher conferences for parents/guardians will be held Thursday, November 15th, 3:30 – 7:00 pm. See the school website for detailed info.


  • Flu Shot Clinic: A flu shot clinic will be offered at North Woods during Conferences from 4:00 – 7:00 pm for ages 4+. Bring your prescription insurance card and Medicare card. Please wear short sleeves. See the info flier posted in the school entryway and on the school website.


  • Peer Helpers: Please see Chris in the Library to sign up to help with the Book Fair. It is going on through next Thursday, November 15th.


  • PTO Mother/Son Carnival:  The Mother/Son Camo Carnival is tonight from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the North Woods Commons.  $15 per mom at the door. Nerf guns and Nerf targets, games, photos, prizes and dinner.  Please bring your mom or aunt or grandma, etc. and come have some fun!


  • The Counseling Office will be closed on Tuesday, November 13th.


  • Wednesday Green Energy class is looking for a large umbrella to use for a project. If you have one, please contact Mr. Black. 


  • Homework Help will be held Tuesday, November 13th after school.


  • Are you a student in grades 10-12 interested in a career in mental health, education, counseling, or do you have a strong interest in helping others? If so, you are invited to attend a meeting during Senior High Lunch today  in Mrs. Stark's office. We will discuss starting a new program for students to assist students with mental health issues and suicide prevention. You must be a student in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Other requirements will be shared today.

  • Today’s lunch is Country Fried Pork on a Bun.



  • To All: For safety reasons, please make sure to let the buses leave the school first before you leave the parking lot at the end of the school day. Thank you!
  •  Fitness Center Hours: The Fitness Center will be open from 3:30-5:30 pm Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday for students and 5:30-7:30 pm Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday for adults. For both groups on Wednesday 2:00 – 7:30 pm.


  • The Health office is closed every day from 10:00 am until 10:30 am. 
  • See the Counselor’s window for educational and job opportunities.
  • The Range Engineering Council will be hosting their annual Engineering Mentoring Nights for students in Grades 9-12. Working engineers and colleges will be on-site to answer your questions. RSVP to to make sure there is enough food! More information is on the poster outside of the Counseling Office. The events will take place on the following dates:

* Wednesday, November 14: 5-7 pm at Barr Engineering in Hibbing

* Thursday, November 15: 5-7 pm at Komatsu Mining in Virginia

  • Seniors are holding a Dave’s Pizza Fundraiser ($6 per pizza). Sales run through November 7th. Pizzas will be delivered to the school for pickup on Thursday, November 15th. Seniors: All order forms are due to Mrs. Pascuzzi today.
  • Elementary Butter Braid Sales: November 2nd – 19th. All orders must be turned in to the office.
  • Students in 9th grade and up that are interested in traveling with the Travel Club to either Greece/Italy/Spain or Costa Rica this summer can pick up information outside Ms. Carstens’ room (200).
