North Woods School Announcements

Tuesday – January 15th, 2019

 

  • Congratulations to Steven Sopoci for placing 1st in the North Woods Spelling Bee yesterday! Congratulations also to our 2nd place winner Isabelle Koch and to our 3rd place winners (they tied) Lauren Burnett and Braden King!

 

  • The Boys Basketball team is excused at 2:45 pm today for their game with Hill City. Bus leaves at 3:00 pm.

 

  • Credit Recovery will meet today.

 

  • Peer Helpers: Money and candy bars from Peer Helpers fund raiser are due to Chris ASAP.

 

  • From the Counselor:

* Students in Grades 7-9: Registration forms for the 2019-20 school year were handed out last week. If you did not receive one, see Mrs. Stark. These forms need to be signed by your parent or guardian and returned by tomorrow - Wednesday, January 16th.

* Semester 2 begins Tuesday, January 22nd. Any schedule changes must be made by Thursday, January 17th, before the new semester begins. See Mrs. Stark for a Drop/Add form.

 

  • College Visit: A rep from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College will be here on Tuesday, January 29th at 9:30 am in the Counseling Office. Any juniors or seniors interested in meeting with the rep can sign up in the Counseling Office.

 

  • NA/HHA students reminders from Mrs. Ratai:

* Payment for the NA/HHA certification test must be made before January 16th at Mesabi Range College, Virginia or Eveleth campus.

* Remember to bring the following to the January 16th certification test: proof of test payment slip, 2 forms of ID with one being picture ID (driver's license preferred, permit or school ID), Social Security Number.

* Return intact course packet (all three sections) to Mrs. Ratai at the College on January 16th. Failure to do so at this time will result in a $30 book fine payable to Mesabi Range College.

* Transportation to Mesabi Range College, Eveleth campus, leaves at 8:30 AM on January 16th. Meet in the Commons area by 8:25 AM.

* Students driving to the MRC Eveleth campus on January 16th for the 8:00 test time were required to turn in  signed permission-to-drive slips to directly to Mrs. Ratai on January 9th. If slips were not turned in on time, the student will be required to ride school transportation.

* Remember to wear a short sleeve top, socks and non-skid footwear to the certification test. Hair is to be secured off the face and neck.

 

  • Today’s lunch is Pork Gravy and Mashed Potatoes.

 

Reminders:

  • Reminder to All from Deputy Kick: Please remember to drive with caution in the parking lot and to let the buses leave the school first before you leave at the end of the school day– please be safe. Thank you!
  • Fitness Center Hours: The Fitness Center will be open from 3:30-5:30 pm Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday for students and 5:30-7:30 pm Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday for adults. For both groups on Wednesday 2:00 – 7:30 pm.

Students:

  • The Health office is closed every day from 10:00 am until 10:30 am. 
  • See the Counselor’s window for educational and job opportunities.
  • Students in Grades 9-12: The University of Minnesota Duluth will host their annual UMD Business Day on Monday, March 11th from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. For more information and to learn how to register, see the poster hanging outside of the Counseling Office.
  • Ojibwe Quiz Bowl will meet every Wednesday during Junior High lunch in Mr. Bajan’s room (206).
  • Mandatory Knowledge Bowl Practice for all students planning to attend KB meets starting in January will be held Fridays during Sr High lunch in Room 203 (Mr Faiman's room). You MUST attend practice in order to attend the meets.
  • Students in 9th grade and up that are interested in traveling with the Travel Club to either Greece/Italy/Spain or Costa Rica this summer can pick up information outside Ms. Carstens’ room (200).
